Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Parliamentary Assistant to provide administrative support to our Member of Parliament. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of parliamentary procedures, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Member of Parliament, including preparing correspondence, managing schedules, and coordinating events.
  • Assist with research and analysis on parliamentary committees and other issues related to the riding.
  • Monitor and respond to correspondence, including emails, letters, and phone calls.
  • Coordinate tours, events, and outreach activities organized by the MP on Parliament Hill.
  • Monitor daily proceedings in the House and provide updates to the MP and other staff members.
  • Triage all incoming correspondence and invitations to the Parliament Hill Office.
Qualifications
  • University degree or post-secondary education from a recognized institution in political science or a related field, combined with experience working with senior management OR an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience.
  • Experience working in an office in an administrative support position.
  • Knowledge of administrative methods, techniques and practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent communications skills and command of written French.
  • Tact, diplomacy, high degree of discretion and skill in building and maintaining professional work relationships.
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian politics and parliamentary services.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and meet strict deadlines.
  • Understanding of government priorities and messages.
  • Ability to respond effectively to short-term requests.
Assets
  • Work experience assisting an elected representative at the Federal or Provincial Level.
Operational Requirements
  • The nature of the position may require the incumbent to occasionally work long hours and some weekends.
