The Ottawa Bureau Chief is responsible for overseeing the coverage of the parliamentary bureau of The Canadian Press. This managerial position will lead a staff of strong and uncompromising multimedia journalists who have a shared goal of providing the public and our clients with the best political coverage in the country. The Ottawa Bureau Chief works closely with other CP bureaus, as well as with staff and supervisors at La Presse Canadienne. This position reports directly to the managing editor and to the Editor-in-Chief.

**Responsibilities**
- Oversees 24/7 coverage of all federal political news for The Canadian Press
- Supervises and schedules Ottawa staff, in conjunction with the News Editor.
- Liaises with other CP bureaus and head office to co-ordinate coverage, especially with multimedia services in mind. Liaison with La Presse Canadienne staff in Ottawa and supervisors in Montreal.
- Develops and edits hard-hitting stories that are unflinching, but fair and in line with CP’s time-tested standards.
- Builds CP’s brand within Ottawa and appears on client broadcast programs to raise CP’s profile.
- Represents The Canadian Press at official functions in Ottawa and builds contacts within the federal bureaucracy and diplomatic circles.
- Liaises with CP media clients.
- Works closely with CP’s Sales and Marketing team to help bring in new clients.
- Mentors, coaches and manages team performance by establishing specific goals and objectives.

**Qualifications**
- Exceptional news judgment.
- Stellar copy editing and writing skills.
- Strong background in political journalism.
- Proven ability developing a network of sources that will help yield scoops for the bureau.
- Ability to work under extreme deadline pressures.
- An independent thinker who can bring new ideas to the CP political report.
- Excellent knowledge and demonstrated professional experience using different platforms, including broadcast, video and multimedia.
- Proven skills in using social media as a newsgathering tool.
- Knowledge and a proven ability to generate stories using access to information laws.
- Must have leadership skills to develop and maintain high levels of collaboration, motivation and commitment that leads to the achievement of business goals and optimum performance.
- Bilingualism is an asset.

**Description de tâche**

Le (la) chef de bureau d’Ottawa est responsable de la couverture du bureau parlementaire de La Presse Canadienne. Ce poste de cadre dirige une équipe de journalistes multimédias solides et irréductibles qui ont comme objectif commun de fournir au public et à nos clients les meilleurs reportages politiques au pays. Le (la) chef de bureau d’Ottawa coopère également avec les autres bureaux de la PC ainsi qu’avec le personnel et les superviseurs du Service français. Ce poste relève directement du directeur de l’information et du rédacteur eh chef.

**Responsabilités**
- Supervise en tout temps la couverture de toutes les nouvelles de politique fédérale pour La Presse Canadienne.
- Supervise et planifie les horaires du personnel d’Ottawa de concert avec le chef des nouvelles.
- Assure la liaison avec les autres bureaux de la PC et le siège social pour coordonner la couverture, spécialement avec les services multimédias. Assure la liaison avec le personnel du Service français à Ottawa et les superviseurs à Montréal.
- Élabore et révise des reportages percutants, sans complaisance, mais justes, et conformes aux normes éprouvées de la PC.
- Valorise la marque de la PC à Ottawa et participe aux émissions radio-télédiffusées des clients afin de rehausser la visibilité de l’entreprise.
- Représente La Presse Canadienne lors de fonctions officielles à Ottawa et établit des contacts au sein de la bureaucratie fédérale et des cercles diplomatiques.
- Assure la liaison avec les médias clients de la PC.
- Travaille en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe des ventes et marketing de la PC pour aider à recruter de nouveaux clients.
- Dirige, encourage et gère la performance de l’équipe en fixant des objectifs spécifiques.

**Compétences**
- Jugement journalistique exceptionnel.
- Excellentes compétences en matière de rédaction et de révision.
- Solides antécédents en journalisme politique.
- Capacité avérée à développer un réseau de sources qui aideront à obtenir des exclusivités pour le bureau.
- Capacité de travailler sous la pression de délais extrêmement serrés.
- Indépendance d’esprit et aptitude à avancer de nouvelles idées de reportage.
- Excellente connaissance et expérience professionnelle avérée de l’utilisation des différentes plateformes, incluant la radio, la vidéo et le multimédia.
- Compétences avérées de l’utilisation des médias sociaux pour obtenir de l’information.
- Connaissance et capacité avérée à produire des articles en utilisant les lois sur l'accès à l’information.
