Job Title: Tariff and Permit Specialist

A & A Contract Customs Brokers Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tariff and Permit Specialist to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with customs regulations, conducting post-entry reviews, and providing expert guidance on HS classifications.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tariff classification rules, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Apply knowledge of General Interpretive Rules, Explanatory Notes, and D-Memos to classify goods.
  2. Conduct post-entry reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with customs regulations and identify discrepancies or issues.
  3. Provide expert guidance on HS classification for a variety of goods.
  4. Manage and support the acquisition and maintenance of Global Affairs Permits, with a focus on the lumber industry.
  5. Ensure all permit-related activities comply with Canadian regulations and Global Affairs requirements.
  6. Act as the primary point of contact for permit-related queries.
Requirements:
  1. Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years in the customs brokerage or trade compliance industry. Experience with Global Affairs Permits, especially in lumber, is a plus.
  2. Certifications: CCS designation or CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) is required.
  3. Skills: In-depth knowledge of General Interpretive Rules for Tariff Classification, Explanatory Notes, and D-Memos. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with high accuracy and strong analytical skills.
