Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Specialist to join our team at The Pod Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing and delivering care and supports to women and their children who have been impacted by abuse and/or homelessness in southwestern Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mental health and addiction assessments to determine residents' needs and facilitate care coordination and advocate for services and options to meet comprehensive needs.
  • Develop individualized case plans and strategies in collaboration with other staff with the goal of achieving long-term stability and achievement for residents.
  • Coordinate service delivery with internal departmental staff.
  • Assess and provide ongoing case management, safety planning and supportive sessions.
  • Liaise with community partners and assist residents in utilizing community services and make referrals to other professional supports as it relates to counselling, mental health, substance use, etc.
  • Address residents' mental health and addictions crises and work to reduce the need for additional crisis intervention from police, emergency services, hospital emergency departments, etc.
  • Maintain accurate statistics and client documentation in accordance with file management policies that align with principles of best practice for record keeping.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Social Work preferred; Social Service Worker Diploma accepted; post-secondary education and/or equivalent experience working within the Gender-Based Violence or related human services fields will be considered.
  • Certificate in Mental Health and Addictions considered an asset.
  • Three (3) years' experience working with women and/or their children who have been impacted by gender-based violence is an asset.
  • Experience in crisis prevention and risk-assessment.
  • Excellent knowledge of the issues and current trends around gender-based violence.
  • Knowledge of Feminist Principles and ability to work with a trauma-informed, inclusive, non-violent, anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens.
  • Knowledge of the community, its resources and referral processes of Oxford County and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to be creative and committed to serving women, transgender people and their children/youth.
  • Ability to occasionally travel within Oxford County to accommodate crises, family activities, while working independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Satisfactory police/CPIC/Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate.
