About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our Schools Plus team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide mental health services directly in the school community environment. The Schools Plus model is a collaborative approach that focuses on educating and providing services to children and their families, with the school at the center of the service.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Manager, Child & Adolescent - Mental Health & Addictions, to provide services that focus on early identification and intervention of mental health disorders for children and adolescents within the school population. You will act as a liaison between the client, school, and mental health services, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional who possesses a Master's degree in Social Work and is registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers. You will have a minimum of two years' experience providing mental health services to preschoolers, children, and adolescents within a mental health setting. Your expertise in the DSM-IV-5 and ability to screen for, assess, and conceptualize common childhood mental health disorders will be essential in this role.

You will also have demonstrated diagnostic experience completing mental health assessments and implementing evidence-based treatment plans for children and adolescents. Your knowledge and practice of principles of behavior management, cognitive behavior therapy, family and systems-based work, group therapy, and other evidence-based practices will be valuable assets in this position.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent part-time position, with 37.5 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $37.31 - $49.04. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
