Job Title: Counsellor

Job Summary:

New Directions is seeking a skilled Counsellor to join our team. As a Counsellor, you will work with children and families living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) in the community. Your role will involve providing information, education, and strategies related to FASD in home and community settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with children and families to develop and implement individualized support plans.
  • Provide education and training to caregivers and community members on FASD and related topics.
  • Advocate for individuals with FASD and their families to access necessary resources and services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Conduct assessments and develop treatment plans to address the unique needs of individuals with FASD.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure comprehensive service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or related undergraduate degree.
  • Experience working with children and families, particularly those with FASD.
  • Ability to apply an Indigenous perspective and experience in their work.
  • Knowledge of FASD, child development, and intellectual disabilities an asset.
  • Relational-strength based approach, trauma-informed lens to service delivery.
  • Circle of Security Parenting training an asset (COS-P).
  • Experience working systemically and in a community-based setting.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with access to a safe, reliable vehicle for work purposes.
