About the Opportunity

The Health Care Social Worker is a key member of the interdisciplinary health care team, providing essential support to clients and families through therapeutic intervention to promote holistic functioning. This role offers opportunities for individuals living with mental illness and experiencing significant functional challenges to participate in group interventions in an outpatient and community setting. The focus is on recovery and is based on the psychosocial rehabilitation model (PSR). The Social Worker will be responsible for leading group programming that helps facilitate, restore, or maintain clients' optimal level of function related to life skills, cooking, employment, education, treatment, wellness, and health promotion, relapse prevention, self-care, productivity, and leisure.

About You

  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work from a recognized university.
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.
  • Two years of post-BSW clinical experience required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
  • Previous experience working with clients with MHA concerns preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various treatment theories and practices, including harmful involvement, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and stages of change.
  • Knowledge of the field of addiction and addiction-related programming and treatment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a client-/family-centered approach.
  • Demonstrated experience with group facilitation.
  • Ability to complete biopsychosocial assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies would be considered an asset.
  • A valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management and disciplined self-organization.
  • Demonstrated comfort and skills working collaboratively with community partners.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
