About the Role

Vancouver Coastal Health is a leading innovator in medical care, research, and teaching. We are currently seeking an experienced Mental Health Emergency Services Nurse to join our team.

Job Summary

This role provides direct care to clients presenting to the emergency department, including assessment, crisis intervention, and stabilization. You will also provide liaison support for patient care and flow between the program, Emergency Department, and community providers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to clients with mental health and substance use issues.
  • Liaise with Emergency Department, Psychiatric Inpatient Unit, first responders, and community providers.
  • Provide input into care of psychiatric patients awaiting transfer or inpatient admission.
  • Facilitate hospital or detox facility admission, initiate case conferences, and participate in case management meetings.
  • Prepare and maintain client records, provide consultative and direct services to clients, families, and community health professionals.
  • Participate in team meetings, continuing education, and corporate initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Three years' recent related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and substance use issues.
  • Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to severe and persistent psychiatric illness, including knowledge of concurrent disorders and harm reduction strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community, social, and mental health resources, and the impact of social, cultural, and family systems on health outcomes.
  • Ability to provide nursing assessments and interventions, plan and implement care plans, and document client care accurately.
Compensation

The annual salary for this position is estimated to be around $98,000 - $123,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
