Job Description

As a Mental Health Specialist, you will provide an innovative, evidence-based array of psychiatric assessments and treatments to children and youth under 19 years of age who have presented to the emergency department or inpatient units in psychiatric crisis.

You will work as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team that may include other physicians, nurses, psychiatric nurses, client families, social workers, youth outreach workers, and clinicians.

Your role will involve working with children and youth who present to the ED or PEU, requiring urgent crisis-based psychiatric care and bridging to community-based resources, as well as those who may require more intensive support due to clinical deterioration prior to consideration of admission to hospital.

You must have experience in working with children and youth, their families, and the challenges that face these families.

Estimated Salary Range

The estimated salary range for this position is $250,000 - $350,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A current College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) license.
  • Candidates must meet credentialing requirements of Vancouver Coastal Health.
  • A strong community collaborative skillset.
  • A good knowledge of child relational/developmental/psychotherapeutic theory and practice.
  • A commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery.
