About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead the Guelph Public Library in achieving its mission, vision, and strategic goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring the library's continued relevance and impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the library's mission, vision, and goals
    • Collaborate with the Library Board to align the vision, mission, values, annual work plans, performance metrics, and budgets
  • Operational Leadership
    • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to the library's staff
    • Ensure the effective implementation of policies, procedures, and programs
  • Culture and Community
    • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
    • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and the public
  • Financial Management
    • Develop and manage the library's budget and financial plans
    • Ensure the effective use of resources and allocation of funds
  • Human Resources
    • Lead the development and implementation of human resources strategies and plans
    • Ensure the effective management of staff, including recruitment, training, and performance management
Requirements
  • Education
    • Master's degree in Library Science or a related field
    • OR a bachelor's degree in a related field with significant experience working in the public sector
  • Experience
    • Minimum of ten years' related work experience, preferably in senior management roles within public libraries or similar organizations
    • Experience leading organizations through periods of transformation and change
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong leadership and management skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and the public
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
