Job Description

At North York General Hospital, we are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Registration Records Officer, Admitting to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing all clerical activities required for the security and maintenance of patient records.

This position may also be required to support the registration of patients into the NYGH patient care system (Cerner). You will work closely with our team to ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient information, and contribute to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Registering patients and collecting and documenting information required for use throughout the Hospital
  • Chart retrieval and processing for discharged patients
  • Chart assembly after physician completion and performing final quantitative analysis
  • Performing ongoing quality audits on charts and processes
  • Accurately filing and retrieving patients' health records on request
  • Filing charts and loose reports within acceptable time limits
  • Working safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ongoing updating of patient demographics as required
  • Collection of payment for appliances and non-insured services

Qualifications include:

  • Completion of your Ontario Secondary School Diploma, required
  • Current enrolment or graduation from a Health Information Management Program, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, required
  • Previous Health Records experience within a computerized healthcare setting, preferred
  • Accurate keyboarding skills, essential
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with the public and staff
  • Microsoft Office skills, to the level required for the job
  • Bilingualism in French/English, an asset
