About the Opportunity

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Planning Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Corporate Services Department, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of our annual operating and capital budget, as well as our long-term financial plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the City's annual operating and capital budget, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives and financial policies.
  • Lead the preparation of financial reports and presentations for City Council and senior management, providing insightful analysis and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the City Treasurer and other stakeholders to develop and implement financial planning and budgeting processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to departmental managers on financial planning and budgeting matters.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in financial regulations and legislation, ensuring compliance and best practices.

Requirements

  • University degree in business administration, commerce, or a related discipline, and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, or CMA).
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in municipal finance or business management, with a strong background in financial planning and budgeting.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management, City Council, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
