The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the City Treasurer, you will oversee the effective and efficient management of the Corporation's budget, tangible capital asset reporting, and long-term financial planning requirements.

This role presents an exciting chance to lead a dedicated team within a busy municipality, collaborating with the City's Executive Management and Leadership Teams to formulate the annual operating and capital budget, as well as the long-term financial strategy. You will also manage the general ledger chart of accounts for the Corporation and participate as a key member of the City Treasurer Management team in developing strategic initiatives aligned with the Corporate Services Department's overall strategic direction.

This position offers a unique opportunity to serve the public, working alongside City officials, leaders, and members of City Council to shape the annual budget that funds essential services and infrastructure for the Thunder Bay community.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • A university degree in business administration, commerce, or a related field, complemented by a professional accounting designation and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible management experience in municipal finance or business management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulations, legislation, and processes related to financial reporting for local governments, as well as generally accepted accounting principles for the public sector as outlined by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of City Council, public and private officials, direct reports, colleagues, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated expertise in business and financial management, with a focus on enhancing sectional effectiveness and efficiency through the management and utilization of human, financial, and physical resources.
