BGC Okanagan seeks a dedicated Infant Development Consultant to provide home-based services to infants with or at risk of developmental delay and disability and their families. This role facilitates the development of the infant through various home-based services.

The key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing clients and families, assessing problems, and outlining services provided by the organization; referring clients to more appropriate programs if required
  • Assisting families in determining goals for their infants and the means of attaining them; planning, developing, and implementing support plans to meet these ends; providing parenting skills training; planning, preparing, and conducting counseling sessions with families and their infants; developing and implementing a therapy plan; guiding parents in activities specific to the needs of the infant
  • Evaluating, in conjunction with the family, the effectiveness of programs and clients' progress; resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives; assessing the results of the program(s) and making adjustments to programs
  • Providing parenting skills training; guiding parents in skills specific to the needs of the infant
  • Recording home visits and ensuring that parents and professionals involved with the family are sent bi-annual reports regarding the infant's progress
  • Maintaining accurate reports and records on clients and providing monthly reports; ensuring all required documentation is complete; discussing case planning and concerns with therapists and social workers, etc.
  • Referring clients to other resources such as parent groups, therapists, community groups, etc.
  • Providing liaison with other resources and professionals with regard to coordinating services to clients and in supporting the transition to other services; providing liaison, education, and advocacy for and with community agencies and neighbors on issues concerning the program

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to child development
  • Certificate in Infant Development and Supported Child Development
  • One year experience with infants and young children and their families
  • Possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's license and reliable vehicle with the appropriate liability insurance
  • Complete the agency screening process, including a criminal record check

This position requires Union Membership. The rate of pay is $38.68 per hour plus benefits.
