Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at The Regional Municipality of York. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal operation of our water treatment plants and associated pumping stations, as well as the ground water systems, booster stations, and transmission system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform operations and maintenance activities to support the optimal operation of water treatment plants and associated pumping stations, and the ground water systems, booster stations, and transmission system.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, inspecting, and minor repairs, at water treatment plants and associated pumping stations, and transmission system components.
  • Perform daily checks and analysis on the operation of equipment and make adjustments to process controls to optimize effluent quality and ensure compliance with applicable Provincial regulations.
  • Participate in the design, installation, commissioning, and handover of new equipment to ensure all equipment is installed correctly and functions efficiently as per relevant asset management standards.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to operators and co-op students enrolled in education programs, on-going certification, or as required.
  • Maintain data logs and perform in-plant laboratory analysis, including MECP regulatory compliance sampling and submission, in accordance with prescribed Certificates of Approval, Permits to take Water, water and wastewater industry standards, policies, and practices.
  • Participate on committees, task forces, or work groups as assigned.
Requirements
  • MECP License for Water Treatment and a License for Water Distribution and Supply, including experience as designated by Provincial Acts and Regulations and as it applies to the Central facility.
  • Demonstrated field experience working directly in water/wastewater facilities with completion of training courses and certification(s) as designated by Provincial Acts and Regulations, and field experience and certification(s) Level to the legislated standard required at the assigned facility.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical electrical equipment and pump maintenance procedures.
  • A valid Class "G" drivers' licence, clear of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of system hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of the OH&S Act and relevant Provincial Acts and Regulations.
  • A Post-Offer Employment Test (POET) is an assessment that measures a person's functional abilities and immunization status, after a conditional offer of employment has been made.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration, and personal ownership.
  • Physical stamina and ability to climb on or into elevated tanks, work in confined spaces, manholes, sewers, treatment tanks, and wet wells, and work with hazardous chemicals and near high voltage electrical equipment.
  • Ability to physically withstand long periods of standing, walking, climbing, and heavy lifting; work in a noisy environment and work in all/extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus to enter confined spaces.
  • Availability and ability to perform standby duties; respond to emergency situations and work outside normal scheduled hours, as required.
