Water Treatment Process Engineer

Reporting to the Project Manager, Process Optimization & Analytics, this role is pivotal in executing on-site assessments and providing recommendations to enhance both advanced and traditional water or wastewater treatment methodologies. This includes numerical and computerized modeling, conducting diagnostic evaluations, and treatability analyses across various scales—bench, pilot, and full scale. Additionally, the position involves collaborative research on innovative water or wastewater treatment techniques and advising on the planning, design, and commissioning of water systems to comply with regulatory standards and ISO requirements. Training sessions, both on-site and in classroom settings, will be conducted to educate on new advanced treatment technologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze benchmarking data and monitor operational parameters to troubleshoot and enhance treatment system performance.
- Offer insights and recommendations for the implementation of new equipment, necessary procedures, or process adjustments as directed by management.
- Conduct testing at bench, pilot, and full scales to evaluate various optimization strategies.
- Ensure quality assurance measures are in place to assess program effectiveness and support ongoing improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the creation and management of standard operating procedures, operational manuals, and policies related to quality management systems.
- Oversee the appropriate application of asset management standards for infrastructure.
- Foster and support research and innovation partnerships with academic institutions and research organizations.
- Supervise engineering and asset management consultants, managing feasibility studies and projects for water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Coordinate and lead project teams, providing guidance and support.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Operators and stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, to facilitate service delivery and address environmental concerns.
- Engage with regulatory bodies regarding compliance and reporting obligations.
- Coordinate trials for new technologies applicable to water and wastewater facilities.
- Participate in external technical or professional committees.
REQUIREMENTS
- A University Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is required.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with the appropriate governing body is mandatory.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks is essential.
- Familiarity with municipal water and wastewater treatment, collection, and distribution systems, as well as complex hydraulic systems, is necessary.
- Understanding of budgeting processes, strategic planning, and program development techniques is beneficial.
- Willingness to travel to various locations as needed.
- Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours when required.
