Director, International Wealth Management Credit Risk Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Credit Risk Manager to join our International Wealth Management team at Scotiabank. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the overall credit quality of a designated portfolio for International Wealth Management loans.
Key Responsibilities- Portfolio Management: Foster a customer-focused culture throughout your team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Credit Risk Assessment: Collaborate with International Private Banking on transactions and risk appetite topics, and contribute to the development, training, and fostering of a risk culture within the business line.
- Policy and Process Development: Collaborate with International Private Banking on initiatives to streamline International Wealth Management policies and processes, and identify judicious growth opportunities and programs.
- Credit Adjudication: Adjudicate on credits within assigned limits, provide recommendations for over-limit or out-of-policy deals to the Senior Credit Committee, and authorize waivers, amendments, and non-standard documentation.
- Advice and Counsel: Work with local credit units and International Wealth Management teams to provide advice and counsel or feedback on atypical transactions as required.
- Portfolio Growth: Ensure well-founded and profitable growth in the Wealth Management credit portfolios by providing sound and timely decisions on applications for credit, contributing to the development and implementation of lending policies and strategies, and being alert to other market opportunities.
- Portfolio Maintenance: Ensure that the existing portfolio is maintained at a level of acceptable quality and risk by monitoring the assigned portfolio and approved credits, identifying issues, and taking remedial action in a timely manner.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies as applicable.
- Special Projects: Assist in the greater development of the Bank by undertaking completion of sundry duties, including participating in due diligence exercises and completing special projects as required.
- Leadership and Culture: Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits, reinforce the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout your teams, and foster an environment in which your team effectively and efficiently manages their assigned portfolios while adhering to day-to-day business controls.
- People Strategy: Contribute to a high-performance environment and people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates your team by fostering an inclusive work environment, informing vision, values, business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team.
- Credit Background: Broad credit background and 5-10 years of lending experience, with IPL structuring being an asset.
- Language Skills: Fluent in Spanish given the geographic scope of the team.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills.
- Management Skills: Excellent management skills.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Workout Situations: Knowledge of workout situations.
- Computer Skills: Strong computer skills.
- Business Acumen: Awareness of competitor practices, economic, and business trends.
- Education: Business degree and/or well-diversified background in Banking, with an MBA/CA designation being an asset.
