Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled EMC Design Specialist to join our multidisciplinary R&D team. As an EMC Design Specialist, you will be directly involved in all phases of product design, from proof-of-concept prototyping to high-level design, and will have a direct impact on the design of our product family.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams on new product designs, ensuring seamless integration of electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity.
  • Advise the R&D team on electromagnetic design best practices implementation, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain a testing environment and methodology to simulate the product's operational environment, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Design and integrate EMI shielding solutions, antennas for wireless communication, and other electromagnetic components.
  • Lead physics and electromagnetic modeling and simulations, ensuring accurate predictions and simulations.
  • Create proofs of concepts and early prototypes to validate product design choices, ensuring efficient and effective design iterations.
  • Review electrical and mechanical designs for proper integration of antennas, EMI shielding, and signal integrity, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Design and conduct experiments to troubleshoot antennas, EMI shielding, and signal integrity issues on prototype units, ensuring rapid resolution and improvement.
  • Maintain accurate documentation throughout the development and validation phases, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Guide the R&D team on the selection and interpretation of applicable EMC standards, ensuring compliance and best practices.
  • Work with external laboratories for EMC testing and certification, ensuring timely and accurate results.
  • Train prototyping technicians on electromagnetic design and testing procedures, ensuring efficient and effective knowledge transfer.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ years of experience integrating and/or designing antennas and EMI shielding, with a strong background in electromagnetic design and testing.
  • Integration of radio-frequency components and/or experience with wireless devices, with a strong understanding of signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and EMC/EMI issues using lab equipment, with a strong background in test engineering and data analysis.
  • Significant experience with EM simulation software, with a strong understanding of physics and electromagnetism.
  • Solid background in fundamental physics and electromagnetism, with a strong understanding of electromagnetic design and testing principles.
  • Solid background in test engineering, with a strong understanding of methodology, planning, reliability, data analysis, and other relevant aspects.
  • Working with complex, high-density, multi-layer PCBs, with a strong understanding of electromagnetic design and testing principles.
  • Experience working closely with mechanical engineers and product designers, with a strong understanding of electromagnetic design and testing principles.

Nice to Have

  • Analog circuit design and troubleshooting experience, with a strong understanding of electromagnetic design and testing principles.
  • Involvement in the design of a complex product that was commercialized, with a strong understanding of electromagnetic design and testing principles.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with a strong understanding of electromagnetic design and testing principles.
  • Experience with medical devices, with a strong understanding of electromagnetic design and testing principles.

  • Great communication skills in English and French, with a strong ability to efficiently communicate design ideas and solutions.
  • Strong writing and documentation skills, with a strong ability to maintain accurate documentation throughout the development and validation phases.
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, with a strong ability to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Autonomy and problem-solving mindset, with a strong ability to troubleshoot hardware and EMC/EMI issues using lab equipment.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
