Senior Structural Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our team at CB Canada. As a key member of our construction industry team in Toronto, Ontario, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in structural engineering for residential construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide structural leadership and technical guidance to the design-build team and oversee a team of architectural technologists as a project engineer to review, specify and detail all structural components included in the construction / permit application drawings.
  • Stamp construction / permit application drawings along with any forms required to obtain building permits for construction. Liaison with plan examiners at the building department as required.
  • Structurally assess existing buildings and their components, using computer modeling software as required, to determine the structural remedial work required to make them structurally sound.
  • Provide engineer consulting services for the sales team and architectural designers during the conceptual design stage to achieve optimal design.
  • Coordinate directly with building inspectors to satisfy their structural requests and act as a project manager when required to provide structural direction to building trades.
  • Work directly with clients to provide structural consulting and engineering services.
  • Perform in the capacity of a fully licensed structural engineer with the authority to seal drawings and reports.
  • Engineer the structural solution for major renovations and additions to older homes, the scope of which typically includes one or any combination of the following; building additions, top-ups, interior alterations, whole house renovations, basement underpinning and structural remediation.

Requirements:

  • A Professional Engineer with an active Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) granted by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of buildings, construction methods and codes related to homes built today and in the past; working knowledge of Ontario & National Building codes.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience providing engineering services for renovations and additions to homes as a certified engineer.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Can collaborate effectively within a team and can work independently.
  • Great organization, planning and time management skills to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work as part of a team and to lead a team along.
  • Desire to develop skills and grow professionally in your career.
