Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Patient Transport Assistant. This role is responsible for the safe transportation of patients and equipment within the Health Sciences Centre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport patients and equipment to various locations within the Centre, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
  • Clean and maintain equipment as directed by management.
  • Assist in the lifting, turning, and transferring of patients on patient care units, in preparation for transport.
  • Oversee the release of deceased patients to funeral homes and transport them to the morgue.
  • Collaborate with professional patient care staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Requirements
  • High school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of on-the-job Cushman Cart Training within three months and lifts and transfers training within one month.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Competency in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting requests for service.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant walking required.
  • Lifting, turning, and transferring of patients (some in excess of 270 kgs) required.
  • Considerable bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting required in the transport of equipment.
  • Ability to adjust to unforeseen circumstances and/or stressful situations.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional adverse weather conditions.
