About the Role

House of Friendship is a community-based organization that provides essential services to support individuals and families in need. We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Community Support Specialist to join our team.

Salary Information

The salary for this position is Grade 4, with a minimum rate of $22.18 per hour, a mid-point rate of $25.40 per hour, and a maximum rate of $28.61 per hour. The salary will be determined based on the candidate's past related experience.

Job Description

This role will work primarily daytime, weekday hours and will involve intensive work with program participants in emotionally charged situations. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to assess situations and make decisions under pressure with minimal supervision or while working alone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and welcome participants, build rapport, and create a comfortable and judgement-free atmosphere while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Frontline de-escalation and conflict resolution to support individuals experiencing challenges related to mental health and addiction.
  • Will not be required, however willingness to share personal journey with addiction and recovery in a common area may be asked.
  • Manage individual caseload (average 6-10 participants), providing individual and system-navigation support.

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of issues relating to and impacting on all genders and marginalized populations.
  • Strong understanding of interpersonal skills and the ability to engage in meaningful conversations to develop rapport with individuals who use substances using a strength-based approach.
  • Demonstrated capacity for accurate and efficient documentation and computer data entry.
  • Demonstrated ability to calmly problem-solve in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
