About the Job

At Norfolk County, we are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our Building Department as an Administrative Student. This exciting opportunity will provide you with hands-on experience in various aspects of building administration, including front counter services, permit applications, inspection requests, and record management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with customer inquiries and provide excellent service to the public
  • Coordinate building permit applications, development applications, and inspection requests
  • Manage records and files, including routine filing of correspondence
  • Provide administrative support to other departmental staff as required
  • Participate in special projects assigned by the Chief Building Official
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • College or University enrollment in a discipline related to Office Administration, Architectural, Construction, or Civil Engineering Technology
  • A valid Ontario Class 'G2' driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Computer literacy using Microsoft Office, Chrome, and BlueBeam
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Basic understanding of municipal functions
  • Excellent listening skills and a desire to learn new concepts
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, and multitask
  • Good time management, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously with the public, elected officials, staff, other levels of government, and community organizations
  • Experience in operating general office equipment, such as photocopiers and faxes
What We Offer
