About the Role

The University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Assistant Curator, Indigenous Art. This is a unique opportunity to work with the Doris McCarthy Gallery and the Department of Sociology to create, promote, and facilitate gallery and classroom programming that is informed by Indigenous ways of knowing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational workshops and seminars that promote Indigenous art and culture
  • Collaborate with the DMG team and the Department of Sociology to design and deliver gallery and classroom programming
  • Curate exhibitions and gallery installations that showcase Indigenous art and culture
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations to promote the gallery and classroom programming
  • Provide support and guidance to instructors and students on Indigenous art and culture
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum two years recent and related experience with Indigenous contemporary art and culture
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the art industry and cultural protocols
  • Experience working with diverse Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and values
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical certifications in Adobe and Microsoft
  • Experience working in a gallery or museum setting
  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages and cultures
