About the Role

The University of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Assistant Curator, Indigenous Art. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to the development of Indigenous art programs and exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Indigenous art programs and exhibitions that promote cultural understanding and appreciation.
  • Collaborate with the University's Indigenous community and external partners to develop and deliver programming that meets the needs of diverse audiences.
  • Curate exhibitions and gallery installations that showcase Indigenous art and culture.
  • Develop and deliver educational workshops and seminars that promote Indigenous knowledge and cultural understanding.
  • Provide support and guidance to students, faculty, and staff on Indigenous art and culture.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous artists, communities, and organizations to promote Indigenous art and culture.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Indigenous studies, art history, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in Indigenous art programming, curating, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous art and culture, including history, theory, and contemporary practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and partnership.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field, such as Indigenous studies, art history, or a related field.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations, with a strong understanding of Indigenous protocols and cultural practices.
  • Technical skills in areas such as graphic design, digital media, and exhibition design.
  • Experience with project management software and tools, such as project management software, spreadsheets, and databases.
