About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Curator, Indigenous Art and Culture Specialist. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of our Indigenous art and culture program, working closely with our faculty, staff, and community partners to create a rich and inclusive cultural experience for our students and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement exhibitions, programs, and events that showcase Indigenous art and culture
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to create a comprehensive and inclusive cultural experience
  • Provide educational and interpretive programs for students and visitors
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous artists, communities, and organizations
  • Contribute to the development of our Indigenous art and culture collection
  • Assist with the planning and execution of cultural events and festivals

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Indigenous studies, art history, or museum studies
  • Minimum two years of experience in a related field, such as museum curation, cultural programming, or Indigenous community development
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous art and culture, including history, traditions, and contemporary practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines

Assets

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience working in a museum or cultural institution
  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages and cultural protocols
