Director of Underwriting Operations

Job Summary:
The Director, Underwriting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the underwriting department's operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality underwriting services to clients. This position requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as expertise in life underwriting and reinsurance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of underwriters to achieve departmental objectives and deliver exceptional client service.
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Collaborate with the underwriting management team to identify and address operational issues and improve process efficiency.
- Provide technical support and guidance to underwriters and clients on underwriting-related matters.
- Manage and resolve client complaints and issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders to promote the company's underwriting services and reputation.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and trends, and apply this knowledge to improve underwriting practices and services.
Requirements:
- College diploma or university degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of life underwriting experience, with a strong background in reinsurance underwriting.
- FLMI and FALU designations, or other industry certifications.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in team management and development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Abilities:
- Advanced life insurance medical and financial underwriting skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to underwriting challenges.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Strong technical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
Working Conditions:
This is a full-time position, requiring regular attendance and availability to work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be required to travel occasionally to attend industry events and meetings.
