Director Underwriting Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Director Underwriting to join our team at Reinsurance Group of America Inc. As a key member of our underwriting department, you will be responsible for managing a team of underwriters and ensuring the delivery of high-quality underwriting services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and lead a team of underwriters to achieve departmental objectives
  • Develop and implement underwriting approaches and procedures
  • Handle client-related issues and provide senior technical support to the underwriting team and clients
  • Communicate and motivate the team, establishing methods to evaluate job performance
  • Manage, coach, and mentor staff, including development of staff to progressive levels
  • Perform management tasks, including hiring, training, evaluation, coaching, and feedback
  • Work on special projects as needed
Requirements:
  • College diploma or university degree or equivalent working experience
  • Management experience, an asset
  • Insurance company experience, an asset
  • Reinsurance underwriting experience, an asset
  • Bilingual French/English (oral and written) is required
  • Advanced life insurance medical and financial underwriting skills
  • Superior knowledge of current underwriting related developments in life insurance, reinsurance, and retrocession
  • Advanced knowledge of medical underwriting, the financial aspect, and the law as applied in the evaluation of risk in life insurance
  • Strong critical thinking skills, innovative, and creative
  • Comfortable with managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Effective in collaborating with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines
  • Effective people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop employees
  • Intermediate Word, SQL/Query, and Excel skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, in French and English
