Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist

The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a pivotal role in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, performing preanalytical, analytical, and post-analytical tests and procedures with the utmost precision and accuracy.
With a strong technical background and problem-solving skills, this individual possesses the ability to perform all tests, both manual and automated, in the clinical and environmental laboratories with minimal supervision.
Operating advanced instruments that are often computer-integrated and networked, the Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist utilizes computerized information systems to compare test results to established criteria and make informed decisions regarding reportability.
Effective communication, tact, and sensitivity are essential in this role, as the individual must maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preanalytical, analytical, and post-analytical tests and procedures
- Operate advanced instruments and utilize computerized information systems
- Compare test results to established criteria and make informed decisions
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct
Requirements
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess:
- A graduate degree from an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Licensure with NSCMLT or eligibility
- Registration with CSMLS
- A minimum of three (3) years of Medical Laboratory Technologist experience
- Experience in grossing tissue samples
- The ability to work shiftwork, weekends, and holidays as required
- Willingness to travel when necessary
- Competencies in other languages, particularly French, as an asset
