Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer at EXP, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering a full suite of consulting services to clients across Atlantic Canada. With a strong focus on employee ownership and local decision-making, we offer a unique and dynamic work environment.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing drawings, specifications, and reports for project delivery
- Developing layouts and designs for mechanical building systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, fire protection systems, and plumbing and drainage systems
- Creating project-specific details to clarify project scope and building sections to assist with interference coordination between building systems
- Preparing calculations to size ductwork, gas, HVAC, piping, plumbing, and drainage, and incorporating these into technical drawings
- Preparing calculations to size equipment and preparing equipment schedules that are project-specific, coordinating with necessary project team members to review equipment and ensure a complete and correct design
- Responding to internal and external communication regarding project or design status, reporting to the Buildings and Industrial Engineering manager and/or project manager regarding design status
- Creating design drawings in AutoCAD and REVIT
- Undertaking field investigations, including building condition assessments, field measurements, and construction inspections
- Conducting technical code and standard reviews and technical calculations to support building systems designs and reports
- Communicating with clients, project stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary team members
- Supporting clients during tendering and construction, including site inspections and monitoring of contractor progress
Requirements include:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant buildings and industrial experience
- Professional Engineer (licensed with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS), or eligible for immediate registration)
- Background in preparation of construction documents, including specifications and cost estimates
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems design, construction, project, and budget management, and proposal preparation
- Knowledge of national building codes, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards
- REVIT/BIM proficiency is considered a strong asset
- Able to work in a deadline-driven environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, products)
- Experience with Energy modelling and energy auditing for energy efficiency, Renewable energy, power generation, LEED, Green Globes, Zero Carbon Building Standard are considered an asset
