The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dalhousie University invites applications for a probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate's research will focus on controls and mechatronics, with a strong emphasis on externally funded projects and collaborations with industry and government.

The ideal candidate will have a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with a strong background in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and autonomous systems. They will also be able to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and advanced topics related to their research activities at the graduate level.

The evaluation of applications will be based on the candidate's research and teaching experience, as well as their potential to establish a strong research program and contribute to the department's research priorities.

The successful candidate will be expected to register as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia and have a strong commitment to service activities at the department level and beyond.

Applications from candidates with expertise in intelligent controls, mechatronics, and robotics are encouraged. Research areas of particular interest include:

  • Artificial intelligence/machine learning (development, application, integration)
  • Autonomous systems, with a focus on marine/ocean engineering, energy systems, manufacturing, and biomechanical applications
