About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically competent Mechanical Engineer to join our team at EXP, a leading engineering and architecture firm in Atlantic Canada.

What You'll Do
  • Develop layouts and design of mechanical building systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, fire protection systems, plumbing, and drainage systems.
  • Create project-specific details to clarify project scope and create building sections to assist with interference coordination between building systems.
  • Prepare calculations to size ductwork, gas, HVAC, piping, plumbing, and drainage, and incorporate calculations into technical drawings.
  • Prepare calculations to size equipment and prepare equipment schedules that are project-specific.
  • Respond to internal and external communication regarding project or design status.
  • Create design drawings in AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Undertake field investigations, including building condition assessments, field measurements, and construction inspection.
  • Conduct technical code and standard reviews and technical calculations to support building systems designs and reports.
  • Communicate with clients, project stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Support clients during tendering and construction, including site inspections and monitoring of contractor progress.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant buildings and industrial experience.
  • Professional Engineer (licensed with Engineers Nova Scotia or eligible for immediate registration).
  • Background in preparation of construction documents, including specifications and cost estimates.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems design, construction, project, and budget management, and proposal preparation.
  • Knowledge of national building codes, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards.
  • REVIT/BIM proficiency is considered a strong asset.
  • Able to work in a deadline-driven environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with energy modeling and energy auditing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, power generation, LEED, Green Globes, and Zero Carbon Building Standard are considered an asset.
