About the Role

Loyalist College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate Writing Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness department, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing effective corporate communications strategies that align with the college's mission, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Content Creation and Writing:
    • Develop and write a range of engaging and informative college materials, including internal communiques, emails, letters, reports, briefing notes, speeches, award nominations and funding proposals, scripts, newsletters, and articles.
    • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information and translate into compelling content.
  • Proofreading and Editing:
    • Proofread and edit drafted content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established style guide principles.
    • Provide feedback on draft documents to help improve clarity, readability, and flow.
  • Writing and Communications Support:
    • Develop exemplars and best practices to inform internal communications standards and promote a consistent writing style.
    • Provide guidance to internal communicators on best writing practices and share resources to ensure adherence to established style guides and writing conventions.
  • Research:
    • Undertake ongoing research and environmental scans to ensure accuracy and identify emerging best practices in corporate communications.
    • Maintain awareness of relevant internal and external positioning and messaging.
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee project management cycle for assigned projects, including project planning, establishment of key deliverables, and implementation.
    • Manage a content calendar and ensure timely delivery of materials.
Requirements
  • Completion of a four-year degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional writing and editing experience for various platforms, preferably in a postsecondary education or public sector setting.
  • Proven track record of producing high-quality written content for diverse audiences.
  • A diverse portfolio of writing and editing samples showcasing a range of content types.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Press (CP) Style and other editorial guidelines.
  • Knowledge of plain language principles and inclusive language practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
