Senior Transportation Structural Engineer

Morrison Hershfield is a leading consulting engineering and management firm seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Transportation Structural Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Horizontal Infrastructure Business Unit, you will be responsible for leading and conducting inspections of existing bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Act as project manager and structural lead for engineering assignments, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of projects.
- Responsible for Transportation Structural inspection assignments and serve as Supervising Engineer on biennial (OSIM) inspection assignments.
- Lead and conduct inspections of existing bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures, ensuring compliance with Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM), Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and other applicable standards.
- Available to work flexible hours, days, nights, and weekends, with occasional travel required.
- Complete daily Health and Safety documentation and provide recommendations on bridge, culvert, and retaining wall maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation.
- Project Manager for Inspection assignments, responsible for inputting data into a database and providing direction to project team members and support staff.
- Attend and participate in team progress meetings, technically review inspection reports, and conduct regular reviews of transportation structure inspection projects.
- Prepare and review technical reports, summary reports, and proposals, working within assigned projects and schedules.
- BASc or B.Eng. in Civil/Structural Engineering with strong interest and experience in Bridge Engineering – Biennial Inspections.
- P. Eng. status and 10+ years leading Biennial inspection assignments.
- RAQS eligible within Bridge Engineering for Biennial Inspections and Wood Bridge Inspections.
- Attended the MTO 2021 Inspectors workshop.
- Experience in the role of Supervising Engineer on OSIM inspection assignments, fatigue inspections, proposal and report writing, asset management, and project management.
- Ability to perform outdoor physical duties while doing bridge inspection work, valid Ontario Driver's license, and strong computer skills, including experience with bridge inspection and asset management software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, and ability to work in a team environment and excel in bridge inspection projects.
- Proven ability to supervise, direct, and mentor junior staff, organized and detail-oriented, and works well with minimal direction.
