About the Role

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of workers and the public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct workplace inspections and investigations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and implement effective health and safety strategies to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including employers, employees, and other government agencies, to promote a culture of health and safety.
  • Provide training and education to employees and employers on health and safety best practices.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and a related trade or technical training in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • 7 years of related experience in health and safety, including 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
