Job Title: Occupational Health and Safety Advisor

At the Nova Scotia Nurses' Union, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in promoting safe work practices, safety standards, and regulations within our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on occupational health and safety matters to our members and staff.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to promote safe work practices and prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Collaborate with Labour Relations Representatives to support OHS matters and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Communicate proactively with members through various channels, including phone calls, email, in-person meetings, and virtual meetings.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and deliver OHS workshops and training programs for members.
  • Represent the Nova Scotia Nurses' Union at conferences and educational functions related to health and safety.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in occupational health and safety, nursing, business administration, commerce, or industrial relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background in OH&S, preferably 5 years of experience, with knowledge and experience of OHS in healthcare an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and continuous learning.
Working Conditions:

This is a unionized position, and you will be part of the NSNU Staff Union. Key benefits include a defined benefit pension, healthcare dental plan, and various other benefits. The salary range for this position is $87,873 to $116,910.
