Health & Safety Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Safety Officer to join our team. As a Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, clients, and the public. You will be responsible for implementing, and monitoring safety policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and providing guidance to management and staff to maintain compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
- Identify potential health and safety hazards in the workplace, including those related to equipment, materials, and work processes. Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend measures to mitigate risks and prevent accidents or injuries.
- Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees, subcontractors, and other relevant parties. Ensure all personnel receive adequate training on safety protocols, equipment usage, and emergency procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections of worksites, equipment, and tools to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Perform audits to evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct investigations into workplace accidents, near misses, and safety incidents. Analyze root causes, develop corrective actions, and implement preventive measures.
- Stay up to date with relevant industry health and safety regulations, codes, and standards.
- Serve as a point of contact for safety-related inquiries,concerns, and reporting. Communicate safety updates, initiatives, and reminders to employees and subcontractors through meetings, memos, and other channels.
- Develop emergency response plans and procedures for potential hazards such as fires, chemical spills, or medical emergencies. Conduct drills and simulations to test preparedness and ensure a swift and effective response in crisis situations.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and other relevant documentation. Prepare regular reports on safety performance indicators, trends, and compliance status for management review.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- Professional certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, OHST, CHST) is an asset.
- Prior experience in health and safety management, with specific construction or HVAC industry experience being considered an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and industry standards related to HVAC and insulation services.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to be proactive and assertive in communicating health and safety protocols and concerns.
- Ability to gain proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software for safety management and reporting.
