Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Communications Manager to lead our Communications Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the Department of Education's policies and priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic communication plan that meets the department's goals and objectives
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Communications Unit team
  • Review and approve all public communications for consistency with the department and Government of Nunavut's requirements
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of an overall communication strategy
  • Participate in committees dealing with matters pertaining to communications
  • Manage the unit's annual budget
  • Lead a team of two direct reports, including the Senior Communications Advisor and Communications Officer
Requirements
  • Recognized undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Public Administrations, or a related field
  • Three years of related experience in communications planning in a large organization or government setting
  • Supervisory experience is required for this position
  • Experience working with legislation, policies, and guidelines related to strategic communications
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills
  • Skilled proof-reader and editor
Assets
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary range: $109,029 to $123,694 per year
  • Northern Allowance: $16,008 per year
  • Indeterminate employment
