Job Summary

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and monitoring the wastewater treatment plant to ensure the highest level of service to our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant equipment, including pumps, valves, and control systems.
  • Monitor and control the treatment process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and optimal plant performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, and performing repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and effective communication.
  • Participate in training and professional development to stay up-to-date with industry best practices and technologies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Level 1 Wastewater Treatment certification with a minimum of 1 year's experience.
  • Class 5 driver's license.
  • Confined Space Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of DDC Controls and Northern Building Practices.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and oil burning heating systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with various suppliers and the public.

Assets

  • Journeyman plumber or plumbing experience.
  • Level 1 Water Distribution Operator.
  • Class 3 Driver's License.
  • The ability to speak and write in one or more of Nunavut's official languages.
