Utility System Technician

Job Summary:

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Assistant Utility System Technician. This position is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of water meters, as well as assisting in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the water and sewage system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintain water meters to ensure accurate measurement and efficient operation.
  • Assist in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the water and sewage system, including cleaning and maintenance of plants, work areas, and equipment.
  • Work in harsh outdoor weather conditions and confined spaces with obnoxious odors.
  • Participate in training and safety-related courses to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Grade 10 level of education.
  • Valid class 5 Nunavut Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in working with numerical data and efficient computer knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Punctuality, reliability, and ability to work independently.
  • Additional training and certifications in a related field.
  • Related experience within a Municipal setting.
  • Experience working in piped water/sewage.
  • Ability to communicate in both Inuktitut and English.
  • Ability to be scheduled at the last minute.
  • Some overtime is necessary.

Assets:

  • Ability to speak and write in Inuktitut.

Equivalencies:

  • Combination of education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to formal education may be considered.

Security Clearance:

  • Criminal Record check and a clean driver's abstract are required.
