Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Water Works, the Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator plays a crucial role in the operation, maintenance, and evaluation of wastewater treatment facilities. This position is vital in ensuring that incoming wastewater is effectively treated and safely released into the environment. The operator is responsible for the proper functioning of the facility's equipment and must conduct regular maintenance across all sections of the plant. Adherence to the City's Operational Health and Safety Manual is essential for the ongoing success of the facility's operations.

Occasionally, the Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator may be required to carry out similar operational and maintenance tasks at other municipal facilities, including Sewage Lift Stations, Water Treatment Plants, Water Booster Stations, and Water Reheat Stations.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma;
  • Level 1 Wastewater Treatment certification with a minimum of 1 year's experience;
  • Class 5 driver's license;
  • Confined Space Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months;
  • Familiarity with DDC Controls and Northern Building Practices;
  • Proficient in mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and oil burning heating systems;
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with suppliers and the public.

Assets:

  • Journeyman plumber or plumbing experience;
  • Level 1 Water Distribution Operator;
  • Class 3 Driver's License;
  • Proficiency in one or more of Nunavut's official languages.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate must submit a clear criminal reference check and a clean driver's abstract at the time of application.
