About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatrist to join our team at Reconnect Community Health Services. As a key member of our clinical team, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment to older adults living in the community with complex mental and physical health issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with program managers.
  • Supervise the assessment of psychiatric history, mental status, diagnosis, and treatment of clients.
  • Coordinate psychiatric treatment with registered nurses and make referrals to family physicians as needed.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications and monitor therapeutic responses and side effects.
  • Provide education and support to family members of clients to enhance their understanding of mental illness and promote collaboration in the treatment process.
  • Assess and manage crisis situations in the community, on-site, and over the phone.
  • Maintain active involvement in acute and long-term psychiatric in-patient treatment, including initiation and facilitation of admission and discharge to the hospital when necessary.
  • Prepare and submit written reports and provide oral testimony in commitment and other legal proceedings.
Requirements
  • License or eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and certification in psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians.
  • Experience working with older adults is an asset.
