Culinary Team Manager

About the Role
The School Lead is a key member of our culinary team, responsible for managing a team of associates to prepare and serve healthy and flavorful menu selections in a school cafeteria setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement menus and recipes that meet the nutritional and culinary standards of our school food program.
- Lead the preparation and service of food, ensuring high-quality presentation and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including FoodSafe and HACCP standards.
- Train and coach staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Monitor sales volume and adjust production volume and menu plan accordingly to maximize sales and reduce waste.
- Assess tasks and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and output.
- Inspect equipment and communicate the need for repairs to ensure the equipment is safe for use.
- Address employee concerns and work with the team to create a safe, healthy, and productive working environment.
- Stay informed on changes to operations and communicate updates to staff while working with Senior Management to update training policies and documentation.
- Work with the kitchen staff and Operations Manager to control costs by performing physical inventories, maintaining stock levels, and portioning food items to meet quantity and budget expectations.
- Remain an ambassador of goodwill, ethics, and great client relations at all times.
Qualifications
- Culinary experience and excellence is required.
- Five years of experience in the food service industry leading high-volume culinary teams.
- ServeSafe and/or FoodSafe certified.
- Red Seal Chef status would be considered an asset.
- Valid G driver's license with a clean driver's abstract would be considered an asset.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to effectively handle the concerns of employees, customers, and clients with tact.
- Able to effectively use a computer and all related software, including POS equipment.
- Reach and lift between 0-50 pounds from floor to shoulder height.
- Frequent standing and walking required.
- Able to work in hot or cold temperatures.
- Successful candidates must complete a Vulnerable Sector Record check.
