About the Role

The School Lead is a key member of our culinary team, responsible for managing a team of associates to prepare and serve healthy and flavorful menu selections in a school cafeteria setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement menus and recipes that meet the nutritional and culinary standards of our school food program.
  • Lead the preparation and service of food, ensuring high-quality presentation and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including FoodSafe and HACCP standards.
  • Train and coach staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Monitor sales volume and adjust production and menu planning to maximize sales and reduce waste.
  • Assess tasks and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and output.
  • Inspect equipment and communicate maintenance needs to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Address employee concerns and work to create a positive and productive work environment.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen staff and Operations Manager to control costs and optimize menu planning.

Qualifications

  • Culinary experience and excellence is required.
  • Five years of experience in the food service industry leading high-volume culinary teams.
  • ServeSafe and/or FoodSafe certified.
  • Red Seal Chef status would be considered an asset.
  • Valid G driver's license with a clean driver's abstract would be considered an asset.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to effectively handle the concerns of employees, customers, and clients with tact.
  • Able to effectively use a computer and all related software, including POS equipment.
  • Reach and lift between 0-50 pounds from floor to shoulder height.
  • Frequent standing and walking required.
  • Able to work in hot or cold temperatures.
  • Successful candidates must complete a Vulnerable Sector Record check.
