Teacher, Children's Intensive Services Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher, Children's Intensive Services Specialist to join our team at IWK Health Centre. As a member of our interdisciplinary care team, you will play a vital role in delivering educational programming for school-aged clients in our on-site therapeutic classroom.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and implement individualized educational programs that address learning deficits and promote academic success.
- Monitor educational progress and collaborate with the inter-disciplinary team to provide education and transition coordination/support to community schools.
- Provide transition support to clients returning to community schools and work with the team to help children and families cope with mental health issues.
- Participate in the admission process, attend case conferences, and discharge planning meetings, and provide individual educational counselling as needed.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Arts or Science and Baccalaureate Degree in Education required.
- Valid Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate required, minimum of ITC or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience required.
- Current successful completion of a CPR Level C Health Care Provider or Basic Life Support (BLS) course required within the last 12 months.
- Special education training and experience preferred.
- Training in working with children and youth with exceptionalities required, or commensurate experience.
- Experience working with children and adolescents with mental illness required, in particular Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Conduct/Oppositional Defiant Disorders, Anxiety Disorder.
- Demonstrated ability to support the educational needs of children and youth with interrupted learning.
- Capacity to implement proactive and positive behaviour supports.
- Demonstrated understanding of Collaborative Problem Solving approach.
- Familiarity with Department of Education Learning Outcomes for grades P-6.
- Demonstrated ability to work with children with cognitive impairments, speech and language delays.
- Demonstrated ability to work both as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and independently in a family-centred atmosphere.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with families, community groups, and schools to advance the educational needs of clients.
- Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and administrative skills required.
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
