Job Summary

The Children's Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Bilingual Family Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Family Support Program, you will play a vital role in providing intensive and customized services to families in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Family Support and Visitation
    • Assess the strengths and challenges of families in relation to parenting skills and develop personalized plans to meet their needs.
    • Coordinate and facilitate visits between children and their family members to promote healthy relationships and parenting skills.
    • Provide practical assistance and advocacy to families to enhance their functioning and prevent child maltreatment.
  • Case Management and Coordination
    • Work closely with families, caregivers, and community service providers to develop and implement safety plans and ensure the well-being of children.
    • Coordinate transportation and logistics for visits and provide support to families in accessing community resources.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of family progress and case updates.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships
    • Establish and maintain relationships with community service providers and stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
    • Provide information and facilitate the positive engagement of families with community services and resources.
    • Advocate on behalf of families to ensure their needs are met and their rights are respected.
  • Professional Development and Training
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in family support and child welfare.
    • Contribute to the development of new strategies and approaches to family support and child welfare services.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Diploma or degree in a related field, such as social work or child and youth care.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience working with families and children in a child welfare or related setting.
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Advanced verbal and written communication skills in both English and French.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and Ministry standards.
    • Good understanding of the agency's values, service philosophy, and objectives.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of intersectionality, cultural competency, and clinical practice within an anti-oppression framework.
    • Clinical knowledge of child maltreatment, child development, attachment, and separation.
  • Personal Qualities
    • Compassion, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting families and children.
    • Excellent problem-solving, planning, and priority-setting skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with colleagues and community partners.
