Community Engagement and Communications Intern

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Community Engagement and Communications Intern to join our team in Kitchener, Ontario. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing strategic communication and community engagement plans and activities on behalf of our clients.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills. Excellent interpersonal communication skills are also essential, as this role requires continuous interaction with team leaders, client management, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist multi-disciplinary teams and project managers in developing strategic communication and community engagement plans and activities.
  • Support tracking and reporting on the results of consultation and engagement.
  • Assist with public and stakeholder engagement activities and tactics, including in-person and virtual workshops, advisory committees, community meetings, and public open houses.
  • Support the development of communication materials, including key messages, FAQs, presentations, notices, storyboards, and discussion guides.
Qualifications
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree related to Communication, Environmental Planning, or other related field.
  • Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor's degree and plan to continue with the master's degree are eligible to apply.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian regulatory and policy context, Federal and Provincial Impact Assessment processes.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
  • Experience with government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis, and facilitation.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $45,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience. AECOM offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) matching program.
