About the Opportunity

Sovereign, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Co-operators General Insurance, is committed to valuing the experience of its employees. As a Commercial Lines Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in reviewing and evaluating complex account applications to determine risk, coverage, and premiums.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate large and complex account applications to determine risk, extent of coverage, and premiums.
  • Accept or reject applications based on established policies, procedures, and standards, company philosophies, and authority levels.
  • Negotiate coverage and rates and participate in underwriting audits.
  • Complete necessary documentation in support of the business handled.
  • Develop and maintain positive, constructive relationships with brokers.
  • Develop a team-oriented approach to meeting corporate and department goals and objectives, including written premium and profitability objectives.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience.
  • Experience in Construction, Manufacturing, Wholesale, and/or Transportation and Logistics segments would be considered an asset.
  • Having a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation would be an asset.
