We're looking for a skilled Underwriter I, Commercial Lines Auto (Fleet), to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation.

About the role

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial lines auto underwriting, with experience in analyzing and evaluating complex risks. They will be responsible for participating in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development.
  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
  • Make recommendations to improve department processes and increase efficiency.
  • Analyze requests for quotes and recommend innovative solutions.
  • Focus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies.
  • Provide technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members.
  • Assess, evaluate, and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education and/or relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of commercial lines auto (fleet) experience.
  • Very strong sales and customer service skills.
  • Completion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an asset.
  • Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related thereto.
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks.
  • Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues.
  • Strong negotiating skills and business savvy.
  • Initiative and ability to work under pressure.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.
  • No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
