Acute Care Physician Assistant

As a key member of the Northern Health Authority team, the Associate Physician (AP) Acute Care plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in acute inpatient settings. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the AP works collaboratively with physicians and surgeons to deliver medical or surgical care to patients in the hospital's Emergency Department and inpatient units.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute, chronic, and complex illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders of all body systems.
- Provide history and physical examinations, advance care planning, and order diagnostic studies, including laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiographic examinations.
- Administer medications normally considered part of the practice of hospital medicine, working in collaboration with attending physicians.
Qualifications
- Eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC in the Associate Physician – Acute class, under sponsorship of Northern Health Authority.
- Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or legal ability to live and work in British Columbia.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification prior to commencing orientation and maintenance of such certification throughout employment.
Requirements
- Excellent English communication skills, including with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment, with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with other healthcare professionals and disciplines.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
