Acute Care Physician Associate

As a valued member of the Northern Health Authority team, the Associate Physician Acute Care plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care in acute inpatient settings. Working closely with physicians and surgeons, the Associate Physician supports the delivery of medical and surgical care, while under the supervision of an identified member of the hospital medical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute, chronic, and complex illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders of all body systems.
- Provide history and physical examinations, advance care planning, and order diagnostic studies, including laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiographic examinations.
- Administer medications normally considered part of the practice of hospital medicine, while working in collaboration with the Attending Physician.
Requirements
- Eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) in the Associate Physician – Acute class, under sponsorship of Northern Health Authority.
- Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or the ability to live and work in British Columbia.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification prior to commencing orientation and maintenance of such certification throughout employment.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage common medical problems in the medical and perioperative patient.
- Ability to recognize and initiate response to emergency situations, such as shock, acute coronary syndrome, stroke, etc.
- Excellent English communication skills, including with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment and carry out professional duties in the face of multiple, competing demands.
